UK Electric Car Fast Charging Almost Catches Up With Petrol Car Refueling

Due to high energy prices in the UK, the cost of fast charging an electric car with a public charging station is already about the same as the cost of refueling a petrol car.

According to a survey by the British car service company RAC Co., Ltd., due to the high energy prices in the United Kingdom, the cost of fast charging electric vehicles with public charging piles has been similar to that of fuel vehicles.

The BBC reported on September 26 that the RAC survey showed that since May, the cost of using public charging piles to charge electric vehicles in the UK has risen by 42%, reaching an average of 63.29 pence per kilowatt hour (about 4.74 yuan). . This kind of public charging pile is usually a fast charging mode, and you pay as you use it.

For electric vehicle owners who do not have private charging stations at home and can only use public charging equipment, they will spend 18p (about 1.35 yuan) in electricity bills for each mile (about 1.6 kilometers) of driving. According to the current British oil price and an average of 40 miles (about 64 kilometers) per gallon of gasoline, the fuel consumption per mile of a fuel car is only 1 pence (about 0.07 yuan) more expensive than an electric car.

Charging at home is cheaper, but costs are rising rapidly. A mid-size car now costs an average of 9p ($0.67) to run a mile on electricity. Most electric car owners in the UK choose to charge at home at night.

RAC spokesman Simon Williams (28.42, -0.73, -2.50%) said the cost of charging an electric car at home was still lower than the cost of petrol or diesel cars, but the data showed that "as electricity bills have risen sharply, two The gap is narrowing.”

Since late February, Western countries have imposed multiple rounds of severe sanctions on Russia, including restricting or banning the import of Russian energy, but the sanctions have also led to soaring prices and living expenses in European countries that depend on Russian energy.

The British government has recently introduced measures related to energy subsidies. It is expected that companies can enjoy a 50% discount on wholesale energy prices this winter. Williams said the measures could see public charger operators lower prices in the next few weeks, but electric vehicle owners were concerned they would still raise prices once the wholesale discounts end after winter. The RAC is calling on the government to reduce the VAT rate for the use of public charging points from 20 per cent to 5 per cent, the same as the rate applicable to charging at home.
