French Power Company Will Close 580 MW Coal-fired Power Station In 2021.

On June 7, French power grid operator French Transmission Company (RTE) said that the French power company (EDF) plans to shut down its 580 megawatt Havre No. 4 coal-fired power plant in the spring of 2021.

The move is in line with the French government's decision to phase out surplus coal-fired power plants to curb carbon emissions while promoting renewable energy generation.

"According to the direction of France's multi-year energy plan, the French power company plans to shut down the Le Havre 4 coal-fired power plant in the spring of 2021." French transmission company said on its official website.

Later in June 6, the French French Democratic Federation (CFDT) said that the French power company had notified the workers of the plan, but the workers objected to the plan and added that the French government plans to burn all coal by 2022. The power plant is the second year of the planned shutdown of the Le Havre power plant.

"French Democratic Union has rejected the will of the French power company and the French government to shut down the Le Havre 4 power station. The Federation believes that after the power plant is shut down, it will not be able to guarantee the normal operation of the French power grid."

At present, the French Democratic Union has held several strikes to protest against the elimination of coal power plans, which they believe will put the French energy supply at risk.

The French Democratic Federation of Trade Unions said that management has informed the union that the other coal-fired power plant of the French power company, the 580MW Cordemais Unit 5, will continue to operate and will be converted to combustion in the Ecocombust project in 2022-2026. Biomass.

The other two coal-fired power plants in France are Emile Huchet 6 and Provence 5 with a total installed capacity of 1200 MW, operated by German power company Uniper.
